Kar 98 variant?
Picked up what looked to be a Kar 98 variant. Not many marks on it at all, but nothing matches serial number wise. The barrel is about 20" long, has the normal Kar 98 sights, etc. The front ring has NOT been ground on, and it doesn't look like it's been sporterized. Here is the kicker-the front ring has a JAPANESE mark on it! Looks like a circle, with 3 half circle lines in it making a kind of three leaf clover looking logo. Any ideas on who made it? Is it actually going to be 8mm? An 8MM round goes in the muzzle like it looks like it should, but i haven't even tried to load it yet.

Sounds like a Chaing Kai Shack (sp?) Chinese made copy of a Standard Modell like they were sold in the '20's and '30's.
Check for German proofs. Absent these, it's a China copy.
BTW, Bolt handle is straight?0 -
Chinese Kwangtung Arsenal.
Have a knowledgeable/competent gunsmith. Headspace/inspect/ test fire it. Lot of the Chinese wartime guns are suspect. Might consider it prudent just hanging it on the wall, as a conversation piece.
