No your talking two completely different animals here. 0 -
What he said up there^^^.
Lack of standard measurements on AR 10. 2 brands, may not match.
AR 15, buffer wrong, length of cartridge wrong, length of cartridge wrong for mag well on AR 15 lower, etc ad infinitum.0 -

Its not entirely clear what you are asking here. Can you be more specific?
If you want something like a 5.56 AR-15, but in .308, then what you want is a gun called an AR-10, which is basically a larger scaled up version of the AR-15 designed to take longer cartridges. These are more expensive than AR-15s.
You can't put an AR-15 upper on an AR-10 lower, or vice-versa. Although the guns look similar, the platforms are different and the critical parts won't interchange between the two.
If you're asking about putting a .308 barrel into an AR-15 platform gun (**NOT** an AR-10), yes it actually is possible to do that. The problem is that the AR-15 magazine is too short to feed .308, so you have to load one round at a time, effectively creating a single-shot AR-15 rifle in .308.
Obviously, most people want their AR platform gun to function as a semi-automatic rifle, but one shot at a time may well be enough for certain applications (EG hunting), and its cheaper to get/create just a .308 upper than an entire new AR-10 gun.
If you wanted to buy something like this off the rack, you can find one for sale here: http://www.franklinarmory.com/PRODUCTS_308-Upper.html0 -
If you just want to shoot a 30 calibur bullet from a AR you could also get an ar-15 chambered in 7.62x39 ... You just need a a AK style curved mag to feed reliably ... C-Products and a couple others makes them
You could also get a 300 BlackOut ... Basically it's a 223 case necked up to take a 30 caliber bullet ... These are short enough to fit in a standard mag for semiauto firing.0 -
" get a 300 BlackOut ... Basically it's a 223 case necked up to take a 30 caliber bullet"
It's a 221 fireball case necked up.0
