Colt 22
I have just gotten a Colt Police Positive in 22.
Some posts are claiming that this is a very rare gun because it is just Police Positive not Target or Officer Match.
Here is exactly what is on the gun
Colts PTFA MFG CO Hartford Ct. USA
Patent Date Aug 1884 July 1905 Oct 1926
Ser. No is 34034 with a "Z" under Ser. No.
It says; Police
Positive Cal 22
I am having trouble identifying on Proofhouse the year??
I wonder if this means you can shoot - Short, Long and Long Rifle ammo in it?
Is it that rare of a gun?
Value range because I can't find a good comparison on many of the sites. All say Target or Officers Match etc, or they are not 22 Cal??
Thanks in advance for any information or thoughts you may have.
BTW, it's an awesome shooter!! I can even hit good with it!!

I make it 1928. It will be OK for standard .22 LR ammo. As long as no Bubba has screwed around with it. Last year I ran into a .22 Officers Model, that some Idiot had tried to ream out for .22 Mag.
For all your other questions we need quality close-up photos. For positive identification and valuation.
Edit #1,
It might be my fault? But image shack doesn't show your photos.0 -
We need pictures. Blue Book does not show a plain Police Positive .22, only the Targets. 0 -

This one is in the completed GB auctions. If this is what yours looks like then you may have a not-often-seen model. The majority of the 22's were target models with adjustable sights. Plenty of photo's there (completed auctions) to compare.0 -
I was at the Phoenix show in Dec. While talking to an old Colt collector who had some really nice Colts on his table, I mentioned I had a Colt Cobra 3" in .22LR with the box. He said he had never seen one before and seemed skeptical that there was such a gun.
A few minutes later I saw one on a table across the room. I went back to him and told him there was one in the room. He jumped up and followed me to take a look at it. He stood there examining that gun for 5+ mins.
Colt did make some models in .22 but in low numbers which is why they can be categorized as rare.

Yes I was aware there were a few Cobras in 22 and have even negotiated on one.
However, almost all the Police Positives or target or match. Even if the ad headline does not say it. When you read the description it says one or the other.0 -

[/quote]I'm sorry, we like to never got those loaded. We followed the directions give on this site. Anyway, it looks like any Police Positive in 6". it's about 85% on bluing abd not rust, pitting or other issues. Says exactly what I put in my first post.
Thanks for trying.0 -

Very desirable gun to a Colt collector. Unfortunately 85% is a negative, as far as collectors are concerned. I don't see it selling for big bucks, like this minty one with box and accessories in the auction. You never can tell though? Might be multiple bidders wanting it enough. Bidding against each other,to drive the price up.
