The one I had was...but there are folks who had frames crack with theirs. I sold mine years ago but I would own one again if a priced right one came my way. 0 -
I don't think any of the small autos are really 100% reliable, but assuming the gun is broken in, clean, and loaded with the right ammo, this one should be as reliable as any of them. IE, it doesn't have a reputation for being UNreliable, and lots of people like these.
IMO, if reliability is your top concern, you're better off skipping ALL the pocket autos and going with an alloy frame snubnose revolver.
Those are a little bigger than the Tomcat sizewise, but at 14 ounces for this vs say 15 ounces for a Smith 642 weight is actually about the same. If you want low recoil, you could get a .32 revolver, or even use low power .38s (pretty much all of which will outperform 32 ACP).
If you want to get some sense of how this compares to revolvers or other pocket autos, this chart is an excellent reference:

Edit: Responding to above, yes, these guns do have a reputation for cracking frames, especially with a high round count. Basically they're built on a .22/.25 platform and .32 is pushing things a bit. Beretta says not to use +P ammo in these, and that's wise.0
