A dealer has a Type 01 license; a C&R has a Type 03. Just get a copy for your bound book and ship away.

If the Type 01 dealer won't give you a copy, get his FFL number and verify it on ATF's E-Z check: https://www.atfonline.gov/fflezcheck/

Your C&R gives you legal privileges when acquiring C&R firearms, not when disposing of them. The purchaser must first determine if his FFL is willing to receive that specific gun from a non-licensee (that is, YOU) for transfer to him.

The best way to convince his dealer to accept delivery of your gun is to offer to include a photocopy of your drivers license with the gun. That will usually make him comfortable that the information you supply is accurate, as he must enter it in his bound book.

Better yet, offer to send a photocopy of your C&R AND your DL; he can simply record your C&R number in his bound book, & be done with it.

    Neal,

A C&R license is not a "non licensee" as you incorrectly stated, and it does afford the same privileges for both acquiring and disposing of a qualifying firearm. It is a FEDERAL Type-03 FFL, and it recognized in all states as such. Rex may need to send a copy of his Type-03 FFL to the Type-01 FFL in California if they ask for it.
