Colt SAA loading gate loose
Need suggestions on how to fix a loose loading gate on the SAA. When flipped open gate moves out toward cylinder and will bind shells. Moves out about .020"- .030". Have tighted
screw that holds in place but will still move out sometimes. Spring is still strong. Need help, Thanks

Between the spring itself and the gate is a pin with flattened ends. Known as the gate catch, according to my reference. From your description it's either missing, or inoperable.
See if you can find a on-line schematic, to give you an idea of what it looks like.0 -

Numrich calls it a detent, here's the schematic:

On that page, look for Part Key 24, "Gate Catch Detent"0 -

No, the detent, part #24 is still there. the slot in the loading gate seems to be too wide. Loading gate will move when you open it about .020"-.030", that's just enough to rub and bind a shell when you are loading. (cylinder will not turn) Most of the time you can shut the loading gate and the cylinder will turn. If you are slow opening loading gate and do not push too much towards the cylinder you can load as normal. 0 -
You didn't lend it to "Bubba", did you?
