Colt SAA base pin spring

I bought a Wolf spring kit for my Colt SAA and in it was a base pin spring extra power. What exactly does that spring do? Thanks in advance.

  The other springs in kit are great, really smoothed out hammer pull and dropped trigger pull from 4.5LB to 2.5 lb. Feels like a $100.00 trigger job.

  Notice that little transverse button on the front of the frame? The one you have to press, in order to remove the basepin? The button is spring-loaded, and what you have is a retro-spring for that little button. Best.
