If I am reading Bert's Red Book of Winchester values correctly, there where a total of 1,015,554 manufactured by the end of 1963.
One has to consider that the early 37s had no serial number.
I am sure Bert will be along presently and give you the correct information.

I think fcdl wants to know how many 28ga Model 37 Win. were made. Will yield to Bert then maybe jump in again.

None of the Model 37 shotguns were serialized, and to the best of my knowledge, there is no known count of how many were manufactured in each of the gauge/bore sizes. That stated, I would assume that the 28-ga was the least common of the five factory bore sizes.

I bring this up for info and not fact.Madis claims that 281,204 Model 37's were made from 1936 thru 1943. He has no figures for 1944 thru 1946.He claims 734,350 guns were made from 1947 thru 1963.He claims in the 36-43 time frame there were 599 28ga with 28inch barrels and 2,216 28ga with 26inch barrels.Well guess what, there were no 26inch 28ga barrels. I think he meant to say there were 599 with 30 inch barrels and 2,216 with 28inch barrels.Go figure. He gives no gauge figures for 1944-1963.Can't blame Bert for being upset at this guy.Wish I had the $38.85 back I paid for his book.

Thanks to all that responded. Had my fingers crossed but without serial numbers etc. I understand that a number is almost impossible. Again appreciate information provided. Fred

Since making a reply to this topic,I am still convinced that Madis meant to say there were 599 28ga with 30inch barrels and 2,216 28ga with 28inch barrels. The 30inch being the most rare. However,I am no longer 100% convinced that the 28ga was not made with 26inch barrels.I hope I have not stuck my foot in my mouth.I know of two 28ga 37's with 26inch barrels that are presently for sale and I verified by telephone that one indeed has a 26inch barrel.I know of one other person who has a 28ga with a 26inch barrel and he can find no evidence that the barrel was cut.I have not personally examined either of these three 37's with 26inch barrels.Yes,I know the fakes are out there.I have quite a bit of info on the 37's including all of Stoeger's Bibles.Nowhere can I find the 28ga with 26inch barrel listed.Have you seen one,do you have one,can you document the 26inch 28ga offering?Thank you

Just an opinion but one of the sad things about collecting firearms to me is the fact that the most unpopular caliber of certain model when being made becomes the most sort after caliber after that model is discontinued . They then become to RARE /VALUABLE to shoot. I have had this to happen to some colts and caused me to sell them because I like to shoot what I have.
