The original Axis have a terrible trigger-I replaced mine with a Basix (www.riflebasix.com) for about $100 or you could get the Axis II which has the Savage Accutrigger for a little less than replacing with an after market along with the package that has a Weaver scope and rings. they are fine shooting machines and very reasonably priced and mine is very accurate. I think it would make you a fine rifle at a modest cost. check over on the auction side for availability and cost between the two.

    Well, they are ugly.

Its an entry level gun, and it won't win any awards for appearance, but bang for the buck is high, and intrinsic accuracy is on a par with much more expensive rifles.

IIRC, an inexpensive and simple trigger job on this can be done at home pretty easily, supposedly to great effect.

If you just Google "Savage axis trigger job" you'll get a bunch of you tube videoes on how to do it.

I have one in .308, and as mentioned, it does have a heavy trigger. But mine is accurate, and it goes bang every time. Extra mags are pricey though.

Our number one seller in the store for long guns. Great bang for the buck no doubt. Also the trigger is very easy to work with on the standard Axis Model without the Accu-trigger. Plenty of You Tube videos on there showing you how to lighten the trigger pull. Highly recommended !
