S&W model 51 question
What does the pre "M" serial prefix mean as per the auction below? Looking at the S&W bible on page 217 I don't see a mention of this. Asking because I have one that has a a serial # about 775 later than this one w/o the "m" prefix. Thanks.

Prior to the M prefix, Smith had numbers only on those small frame revolvers like the model 51. The seller is just mentioning that to show its an early gun. They began using the M prefix in 1969. 0
