Ruger 10/22 Talo edition mannlicher
Can anyone tell me what type of finish is used on a Ruger 10/22 Talo edition walnut mannlicher stock- model 11104 (basket weave pattern instead of checkering? It appears to be some type of urethane or polyurethane finish, but not oil. Any information would be helpful.
Thanks,
Frank

I saw one Friday at a local gun store, man was that a cool looking gun! It didn't look like a glossy urethane, more like an oil finish. ( I didn't get to handle it, so I only got to look at it on the wall) 0 -
No it's not oil. It's not soaked into the stock. There are a few areas on my stock it has flaked off the angles and inside the barrel inlay. I don't know what it is I guess I'll write Talo. They respond to inquiries. I thought that it may be some trade secret that they would not divulge and thought I would try here first. Thanks for your time.

It is polyurethane. I was informed by a representative from Talo.

Gotcha. It didn't shine and look drenched like the old Remington bowling-ball finish, so I thought it was oil. Any luck with Talo on getting it refinished if it is flaking off? 0 -
I am going to strip and re finish the stock with a stain I have used from Brownells before. It's Early American Walnut stain with some red tones I think will look good.
Afterwards I am going to free float the barrel, rap the barrel with .010" tape, use modeling clay to fill the nooks and crannies, use a release agent to cover everything else, and fill the barrel channel with Brownell's Acraglas Gel and set the action and barrel into the stock. Afterwards when its all said and done and the tape is removed from the barrel I should have a good .010" free floating barrel. I'll finish it up by using Birchwood Casey's TRU-OIL for a finish. It should look good and hopefully a tack driver.

Cool deal. Post some pictures when you are done. Like I said I drooled over the one I saw, but the wife and I are paying off our car and truck ASAP so I am not buying anything for another year or so. (We are doing this because we don't know how much of a hit Obamacare will cause to our wallets and we don't want to get caught short)
Good luck with your project!0 -
I'll put some pics up when it's complete. Good luck with the Obamacare. I mean it. I hope you can get what you need without airing your wallet out.
