Savage Model 24
How does a person date the Savage model 24 22 over 410? Does anyone know what years they were manufactured? I have a couple with wood stocks and the barrel selector on the side. Any help will be appreciated.

I own a model 24.....o/u .22/20gauge I recently purchased a red dot scope that requires a 3/4 wide base scope mount to clamp onto. I'm trying to find a clamp on type of scope mount, without drilling into the .22 barrel, Any ideas? 0 -
You can go to the forum at Savage24.com and check the FAQ section, there is a fair amount of info. Those made between March 1949 and Dec. 1968 have a letter stamped on bottom of frame behind hinge pin or ahead of trigger guard, can be used to identify year. Otherwise, not easy to pin down. Mine's an older Stevens, same calibers, made between 1939 and 1950, haven't found any way to tell beyond that. 0 -

The older original Stevens .22/410's, from the 30's and 40's, have Tenite, (plastic stocks). They weren't durable. So that the Tenite's were terminated, in the early 50's. I have a original Air Force issued and marked/serial numbered, Tenite from the late 40's.
EDIT #1
Sorry for the bad picture quality.

Just checked & there is updated info since I last looked. Date code stamp may be in other locations. Seems my Stevens 22-410 with wood stock is pre-WWII, later ones were Tenite. 0 -
The one that Rufe pictured was used in B-29's and B-52's as a survival gun. I've got one just like it, but stamped USAAF, in mint condition. My uncle snagged it out of his B-29 before it was sent to the graveyard, and bought it for $5 as "surplus". Some have about 1/4" of the .22 barrel muzzle hack sawed off, to fit in the space they were stored in.
Rufe, if you don't have one of the GI issued aluminum cased 3" .410 shells, and want one, PM me an address.0 -
My girlfriend(later my wife) bought me one in 1968 for my 17th birthday. It was as you described except that it was a 22 magnum over a 410. I don't know how to prove the age on these guns.
P.S. Still have the gun, but not the wife.0
