$40-50 trade, may be able to sell to a non-dealer for 50-75

Good on you. I figured that's what you would get from a non-dealer.

While I never would list 'quality' in any way with the j22, I couldn't resist getting one when they were new for $50. And you know, with the right ammo, it runs just fine, nary a hiccup, and is as accurate as a short barreled .22 is going to be. Not a defense gun, but fun for plinking at pop cans out to 15 yards or so.

And they often can be "fine tuned" to decent reliability. The main thing on these is that the main spring is often very stiff. And requires premium ammo to function until broken in. Many people try to fire them out of box w/cheap bulk ammo. And when they don't function, pronounce them "junk". You can also smooth the rails to improve function considerably. There is a website that explains how.
I have over the years purchased several of these and similar PAC RIM guns in NIB condition for CHEAP. That the owners pronounced junk after immediate function failure. And have yet to fail in making a reliable shooter of them. Of course with such poor quality, the main question is for how long? I don't expect these will stand up to alot of firing.

A little dremel bubbasmithing on the feed ramp and use cci mini mags and they can be reliable. If I had to carry one I'd put it behind a empty cheap wallet in my back pocket, chamber empty, action cocked, and safety off. Pull it rack it and you have 6 shots. I'd also start scrounging change for a better carry gun. But, if all you got is $100....

You did good on your trade.

I agree. You could likely get more parting it out but will take longer.

Thanks guys. I am off to the show. I am in no hurry to get rid of it, so it will most likely come back home, but we will see.

I know that these don't have a ton of value, but I am bringing it with me to the gunshow tonight. What is a rough estimate on trade value and cash value?

It has the original box, both mags, and both pair of grips. It is in real good shape and I was surprised at how well it shot. I picked it up for the wife to practice with a few years back and it is time to pass it on to someone else.

Market value is going to depend a little bit on where you are, but on the auction site these have been going for about $80-100.

I'd say $75 for this is probably reasonable if you actually want to move it.

    EDIT:

    Did I call that one?[;)]

Seriously, I think you did fine. Yeah, you might have been able to squeeze out a few more bucks selling it face to face to the right buyer, but that would have been "work".

    EDIT#2
On quality of these guns, most of them just won't run right out of the box. Sure, you can get them to run with tuning/polishing, but how many people are able and/or willing to do that? Even if you are, ultimately parts quality isn't high. The slides and frames are made of zinc alloy, and parts failures aren't uncommon. I've heard of these breaking, going full auto, etc.

MUCH more important, these aren't drop safe, and for me that's a deal breaker right there. I don't want to own, handle, or even be on the same firing line of a gun that could go off if dropped. In honesty, even if this gun was all I had, not sure I would trust it.

Next issue, what's the point? A gun like this simply isn't accurate enough for target shooting or hunting. Pretty much the ONLY purpose I can see for something like this is for personal defense, but IMO there are just much better quality guns out there for that purpose that don't cost all that much more that basically disqualify this one.

Bottom line, even if this was all I had. . .I'd still think long and hard about actually carrying it. Kel Tec 3at can be had for around $200, and you can still find Smith and Wesson .38 revolvers in beat condition for not much more.

I'd ask at least $100. Believe it or not most people don't know it's rep. And many who do don't care. They are an EASY $100. pop around here.

New these guns retailed for $49.99 at Turners in Los Angeles. I have a nickel/chrome plated one which was a couple of dollars more.

Mine shoots very well and is very accurate, on par with my German made TPH but durability is the question.
