    According to the S & W Book. It dates to 1907. One of the main identifying features of the early production M & P's. Is the barrel legend on the left side. Noting it can also fire the U.S. Service cartridge. i.e. .38 Long Colt.

    From your description, I don't think it's that great of a deal. Considering the condition. As I see it, it's a almost 100 year old, thrashed revolver. Not even close to the deal you got on the 19. Condition,condition,condition is what collector quality guns is all about. 10 years down the line, it's still going to be a thrashed M & P. Worth only moderately more, than what you payed for it.
