Most shooters will call that a Spam Can. It is Cal .30 (30-06), most likely U.S. But, post a photo that shows the lot number and we can say for sure who made it, and when.

Don't open it. It could have more value as a collectable. Or it could be nothing more than shooting ammo. It's best to find out exactly what it is before deciding what to do with it.

This is what the early stuff in Spam cans look like. It might or might not be corrosively primed.

The later cans have a 2 digit date after the lot number. Definitely would be non corrosive. If the date is in the 60's or 70's.

    EDIT #1,

You might give some though to selling the can. On one of the latest auctions a lot of (2) cans sold for $450. It was noncorrosive, dated in the 70's though.

    EDIT #2,

Dug up a on-line list stating everything above lot # 13,700, is non corrosive, for M-2 ammo, in 8 round clips.

    Mark will know for sure.

We sold dad's spam can(s) still sealed to a re-enactor. I gave him a great price to help him complete his kit.
