    Maybe a SKEET model?

I own three skeet models and two trap guns, so am very familiar with the variants. None of my guns or others I have seen have any special stamping. Trap and skeet models were characterized by upgraded wood, 3-diamond checkering on the bottom of the forend, and a metal grip cap. The Trap guns also had Winchester recoil pads added. Other than that, the metal on these guns had no special markings so, no, I don't think the "S" stands for skeet. Bobski used to be the resident Model 50 expert, but I think he's long gone from this site. Hope someone else can fill in the blanks. Thanks for your input. I won't claim you're wrong, but from my experience the "S" marking isn't standard on a Skeet model.

The only unusual marking I've seen on a Model 50 is either the pigeon or the word "PIGEON" stamped on the bottom of the receiver, denoting a Pigeon Grade gun with all the associated trappings.

I do not know what it means. Most extraneous stamped markings on Winchester firearms are inspector stamps.

Could the "S" symbolize a special order gun?

How were the guns marked after they were sent back to the factory for work such as reblue, rib work, etc?

Good suggestion, guys, thanks. Figured Bobski would probably be the guy who would know. Hope I can get in touch with him.
