I bought at a public auction a uberti 357 cattleman with no cylinder. While searching for same was told that my gun was different because it was distributed out of New York, which is on the markings of the gun. Was told only a few were dist. from NY. Cylinders for the uberti 357 would not fit. Had to have one cutdown and fitted. Gun works well now. Can you tell me if I have a Uberti that is different. and if so value? Thanks

Maybe it was a early prototype. A preproduction model that is metric common sized before they decided to faithfully reproduce it the correct size?

Is it gold plated or really polished brass? Sometimes Nickel, Chrome and Stainless get confused.

Added You should see what the maker knows. Your gun isn't factory original so collector value is lessened if it ever had any. I personally don't think all that much of uberti and would have gladly taken the $1500 and bought a S&W. You likely have a nice shooter to enjoy.

Could be a prototype. Where would I find this out? As far as finding the value in todays auctions, This is not like todays guns because of the Distribution (New York, N.Y.) If anyone has a 357 cattleman with N.Y. on it please let me know...By the way ---backstrap (brass) [|)]

Your revolver was imported by "Sile Distributors". They were located in New York, circa 1970's/80's? After the owner of Sile took over Iver Johnson in the mid 70's. These Italian, single action, revolvers were sold as the Iver Johnson Cattleman.

It might be you have a early model Uberti Cattleman, they were made in different frame sizes. Because of this, there might be the difference in dimensions that you noted.

Given what they are now going for used. $200-$400. I agree with dcs shooters, you screwed the pooch by not taking the $1500.

007 I think you are on time. Still love the gun. It is a good addition to my collection. The only thing I have seen different is mine is a flat top. but all other markings the same. Date on my gun is xxiv(1970). Thanks for your help.
