Remington shotgun ID
I have an old Remington shotgun, sidehammer, 32 inch barrel 12 guage, that has 1894 patents on the reciever. One book I have says its a Model 3, and another book says its a Model 9? Im having trouble finding it listed in any of my gun value books the newest being 2011. Can anybody shed some light on this? Where would a serial number be listed, I cant find any. Any range of values might also help..

"Flayderman's Guide", identifies them through the barrel markings. The Model 1889, would be marked "Remington Arms Co. The earlier Models 1885 & 1887. Have the E. Remington & Sons, Ilion, N. Y., U.S.A. marking.
Thousands made, in many different grades.
Post quality photos. Perhaps one of our members can help with serial number and value?0 -
Thanks, mine is marked Remington Arms Co. and I found a serial number under the grip. Now I have to find a value in some book, so far none of my books list it. 0 -
The Remington Model 3 has an extractor only (pulls fired shells part of the way out of the chamber only). The Remington Model 9 has an ejector (throws fired shells clear of the gun). Post the serial number and will give you the year the gun was made. 0 -
It is 52879, and there is an I or a 1 in front of it. I thought it might be I for Illion, or maybe it is a 1 but it is different than the numbers. 0 -
Where else has Remington been located? Illon,NY is the only placeI know of.
I've posted the differences between the Remington Model 3 and9,extractors and ejectors If the serial number is 52 879 and the gun is a Model 3 it was made in 1903,serial numbers for the model do not go over 93, 500 (1910). If the gun is a Model 1909, it was made in 1908. Serial numbers for the Model 1909 begin with number 100,000 in1902 and run through 185,000 + in 1912.0
