I assumed I was looking at a model 94 at a lgs , never did look at the barrel because I was assuming , but can't find what I was looking at in my blue book.

It was a 24" barrel , pistol grip , safety on the receiver , and a full length tube , in 44 mag. Also had checkering. I know nothing about winchester lever guns. Any clues to what I was looking at and it's value in an easy 96%? A stretch I know but I sure did like it! Should have looked closer...

The original Zipper was a Model 64 (94 action) with long skinny barrel, half magazine, and pistol grip. Most made pre WWII, some in the 1950s according to Madis.
Bert H likely has better information.

Winchester introduced the 219 Zipper in the Model 64 early in the year 1937. There was no isssue with the 26-inch barrels used on the Model 64. The real issue was due to the bullet design needed for a lever-action rifle not being the best choice for accuracy. Additionally, most people wanting a "varmint" cartridge rifle at that time chose bolt-action rifle over a lever-action.

The highest production year was 1946. Winchester discontinued the 219 Zipper in the Model 64 in 1949.

Great answer Bert, thanks. Most of the reading that I've done said that the problems were with the barrels being to thin and so when Marlin came out with a 219 in the 336 it had a heavy barrel on it.

Ken Waters said F.C. Ness reported great variations in accuracy of the .219 Zipper, rifle to rifle and ammo lot to lot. It seems to have been luck of the draw as to whether you were shooting well.

I would be willing to bet, that if one took a 219 Zipper, and loaded it with the Nosler 40-50 grain BT, and only LOADED ONE ROUND in the magazine, at a time, that the 64's would shoot as well as one could hold them.

One has to remember that the 218 Bee was plagued with this same disease. I have seen a Model 43 Bolt gun, and its lever counterpart, both with a 40grain BT, do spectacular things.
