Remington lock question

Can anyone recall when the big "R" introduced the little green key locks for their guns, model 700's specifically? Thanks.

I have a 700 with the barrel code 2000 and it has the J lock and another 700 that is 1998 and it doesn't have the J lock

YES, I believe it WAS 2000 that the J-lock was introduced...My 7mm RUM is the oldest rifle I have/had WITH a J-lock and it was a 2000 production gun
