    If the barrel is longer than 20" and doesn't have a saddle ring good chance it's a rifle. Is it marked "93" or "1893"

    From the serial # sticky above not much factory information for numbers below 4096.

    The reference I looked at, said your number is invalid. Because it would have been on a rifle manufactured in the 1880's. Marlin's were sequentially serial numbered.

    Post quality photos, per Charlie's advice.

    1893 Marlins became Model 93's about 1915 and a new serial number sequence was also started. Pinning down the exact year of manufacture of these later Marlins is very iffy.
