20 ga. yellow
When did the shot shell company's all change 20 ga. to yellow? I have a few red 20 ga. paper and plastic

This is kind of a guess, although I do have a fairly extensive vintage shotshell collection. I would say maybe mid 1960's. 0 -
It was a safety issue. Too many guns being blown up by the "20gs shell in a 12ga gun"..it gets lost in the chamber and then a 12ga shell is fired in what looked like an empty chamber. Gentlemans agreement let all ammo manufactures produce the "yellow" shells.

I have some red 20 ga AAs that were of the same logo/pattern as other Win shells of about 1970; so if I had to choose a date I would say 1969. 0 -
The ammo manufacturers decided to make the change toward the end of 1965. New ammo manufactured in 1966 made the change to yellow cases in all production thereafter altho there was still other color cases in dealer and distributor stocks for a while after that. I too still have a flat of new Winchester AA 20 ga red skeet loads so now you know how old they are. Soon to be 50 years old and i'll bet you any amount that you could shoot them today with the assurance that they would still break every target that you were centered on. 0 -
Federal was first to intro color shotshells 1961 . Other manufacturers followed at later dates. 0 -

The red AA's in 20 were later to change since skeet shooters were unlikely to make a mistake in loading while under pressure..... 0
