Found an arisaka at local gun shop for 250 great condition , perfect rifling , bore and receiver, anything to watch for

  Not sure if you mean Type 44 (which is 6.5mm Japanese) or 1944. Very few people can pinpoint the year. Does it have a folding bayonet?

  It's got aircraft flip up site , cleaning rod but wood butt plate

  Okay, it's a Type 99 made in 1945 probably due to the wooden buttplate. If the sight has anti-aircraft wing it would have to be late 44 or early 45.
  If it also has an untouched mum it's a very good deal at $250.
  
  Addendum: Yep, the stacked cannon balls are Kokura.

  You don't mention a monopod so I am assuming that it doesn't have one. How about the dust shield over the bolt? Probably not there either. Do the numbers match? Check the serial # on the left side of the receiver and then look under the bolt handle....the last three digits of the serial # should be there. If the mum is intact, and it is in the condition that you describe, it is a steal at $250...if the numbers match, GRAB IT QUICK! Don't let the rifle fool you as it is everybit as strong as any Mauser made and many thousands were made into very effective hunting rifles after the war.

  BTW....it is a type 99 and with the wooden buttplate it is a much later rifle made near the end....but still very strong. Good luck!

  Thanks, I'll double check tomorrow, what if bolt doesn't match , could I have an issue shooting it

  No cleaning rod because the hole was there and that was it, no place to put a rod on late war--Folding anti aircraft wings dictate an earlier version,,perhaps a photo? Wood buttplate as stated indicates late war,,but it should have peep sight then,,,pics would tell the tail,,As a one time collector,,Arisakas can make your head swim-

  Been awhile, yet seem to recall the Arisaka's did not manufacture with all matching numbers on each part. They used a different system than other military firearm makers.
  That said, hopefully someone here can attest to this, one way or the other? Or if not, other on-line resources can be found.

  Were it mine, I'd check the head space. And too, check it to make sure it was not re-chambered for something besides the 7.7. Japanese cartridge.
