1934 Winchester 52
My father recently gave me his father's Model 52 Winchester. The serial # indicates a 1934 manufacture date.
As far as I can tell, it has been in the wooden box that I assume it came in, since the 1940's.
I am looking for advice on an initial cleaning/maintenance cleaning, as well as suggested ammo. I intend to shoot it frequently with my kids.

It was common for safety reasons and also to prevent theft, to remove the rifles bolt. Many times this caused the bolts to become lost.
If you don't have a bolt for your 52? This is what they look like.0 -
Buy a really good one piece cleaning rod that will work from the breach end. Use good patches, I like Shooter's Choice for solvent.
I would use any "good" target ammo I could get, for example Standard velocity CCI. Any of the bulk pack stuff might shoot but doubtful well.0 -

Edit: This is the date the serial number was stamped on the gun, when it left the polishing room. Bert H. and others compiled the pre-64 "correct" dates of manufacture from microfilm Polishing Room records found in the Cody Museum basement.
All other dating info was compiled by Madis from what records he had. What he didn't have, he guessed at, ...and made up.
Your rifle has barrel mounted scope mounts, did you get a scope with it?0 -

@ charliemeyer007: Is CLP ok? Also, I assume that non-coated (lead) bullets work best? I have read so much inferring not to clean it too often, or accuracy is affected.

The scope mounting blocks on the barrel are the early style that lack the little half moon cutouts in the edge of the block. Mounting a later long type target scope that has a sharp flange on the scope ring screws will create burrs on the side of the block. The correct screws on the ring assembly that would fit these blocks have a sharp point that will fit in a hole on the side of the block. Congratulations on getting a very nice Model 52. The box may be "original" as far as being the box your grandfather kept the rifle in but it is not a box that came with the rifle when it was new. 0 -

I am absolutely 100% sure that the information you found on the website you mention is not accurate.
Model 52 serial number 27012 was manufactured on January 26th, 1932. You can purchase a date of manufacture letter from the Cody Firearms Museum (CFM) research office that will confirm it.0 -
