Powder life?
Lots of questions, as usual. And thanks in advance for the education.
Local shop just sent me an email on the availability of several different pistol and rifle powders.
So far, I'm reloading far more pistol than rifle. And not making much of a dent in the 1# can I've purchased for the task. I'd love to have an 8# can on hand. But how long before it spoils??
Unopened?
And opened?

The powder you buy will out live you and your kids, as long as it is stored in a cool dry place 0 -

And that's my first can of pistol powder.
I suspect the final lot of PB.
But it has been great so far!0 -
I shot up some reddot that was from the 50's. The red dots were very faint.
Back in the 70's I pulled some 5010 out of loaded 50's BMG (LC44's) ammo the hand laid on out on the ground for many years. Desert sun and winter snow storage conditions for +5 years maybe more. The powder looked ok so I put it in a peanut butter jar. Every year I check it. After about 10 years the lid started rusting inside. After a few more years the powder itself started to turn red.0 -
I used a 8 pound can of WW-231 for 27 years until it was all gone. Some rounds are still loaded with it and still shoot just fine. 0 -
I've some Bullseye that, from the factory containers it is in(rectangular, yellow) must be around 60 Y. O. Works fine, still. 0
