.380 cast bullet receipes
I was reloading .380 about 10 yrs ago & NEVER saved the info I had.I'm using cast,95 grain,RN bullets, sized to 0.335. The ones I loaded, seemed to work ok.I'll have to check tomorrow & see what powder I was using. When I look through the various books,I don't see any specs for cast bullets.I'm a little rusty & need my memory jogged abit. Thanks

I think fast powder like 231 and Bullseye. Be sure the base of the bullet is free of lube. 0 -
sized to .335" is that correct?? 0 -
Yup,that's what it says on the box. 0 -
.355 to .362 is in the range for my Lyman book. 90 gr 356242 cast most accurate load was with 231. 0 -
My mistake,it's .355. I have Green Dot & Unique powder. 0 -
According to the Galliant Powder book,.380,95 gr,FMJ,would use 3.5 gr[green dot] & 4.2 gr[unique]. I need to know what grain to use with cast,95 gr bullets;using the above powders. I want to use the powder up.Thank you. 0 -
90 gr cast bullet Green Dot 2.1 gr 655 fps 10,000 C.U.P; 3.0 gr 910 16,000

I also found some cast 102 gr RN.What grains used with them, with the above powder? Thanks. 0 -
It would be a cold day in Hell when I would trust ANYBODYS recipe over the net. Find one in a loading manual or forget it. 0 -
If it were mine I'd start on the mid point of the 120 gr data and work up until the pistol functions correctly. Doubtful I'd pass the midpoint of 90 gr data by much unless I had to in order to get it to cycle.
And yes you should cross check the data with some other source. My Lyman book is the only one handy. I think I shot a 9mm Kurz a long time back. I rather be shooting a 38 Special.0 -
Jimmy Jack,I'm not asking YOU!!! I'm REALLY glad you have an opinion,NEXT time keep it to yourself, its NOT NEEDED!!!I have books & I was comparing what others where using.Don't get so damn testy. And so far, what I've been hearing is about right to what I have in hand.Thats the end.No more replies please! 0 -
Given the fairly low pressure and velocity of the 380, with proper bullet fit, really any standard jacketed load will work with cast, perhaps with a little tweaking.
I run a 105 SWC in mine, over 2.1 gr of bullseye. 2.5 is the book max for that weight. Haven't tried any 95 grainers, but I run 2.8 with a 95 gr FMJ, so would probably start at 2.5 and see how that does.0
