M-1 Garand Powder
Please school me on the proper powder for an M-1 Garand .Seems to me I have read some articles where they say not to use IMR43590 in the M-1 due to the pressure curve. If I remember correctly the article stated that the best powder was IMR 4895? Thoughts and advice please.i know I have the magazine laying around somewhere but cannot seem to find it at the moment .

The US Government used what we call IMR 4985 by the ton loading the 30 cal rounds for the M1. 0 -
On this forum 1-19-12, M1 Garand Handloads 30-06. Use powders faster than IMR 4320 and no slower than 3031. The loads listed were: IMR 4895 48 gr., 150 gr bullet, #34 CCI Mil primer, and, 4064 50 gr., 147 - 168 gr. bullet. 0 -

Most medium burn rate powders between 3031 and 4320 will do fine; 4895 and 4064 are my favorites, Varget is fine too, BLC2 can also be used... quite a lot really. Do a google search for M1 loads and you should be good to go.
Note that the bullet weight matters too; ideally 147 to 180 gr, with 150 and 168 being common favorites.
I personally run a 150 gr spire point over 48 gr of 4895 in one M1, and a 168 gr Hornady Amax over 46 gr of 4064 in my other; you just have to see what your gun likes.0
