Yes, in hindsight he sure did, but he ran afoul of the Bushs. He put out a hit on Bush senior when he went in to defend and retake Kuwait. Bush Jr didn't like that.

Saddam was a brutal SOB but he employed the ONLY brand of government that could work with those murderous animals.

I agree that we should have just left him alone.

Saddam always maintained that he had the okay from US ambassador April Glaspie to move on Kuwait. In diplomatic circles as okay is anything other than an out right no. If you read the transcripts of Glaspie's meeting with Saddam, her comments are fairly ambiguous; but she clearly states that the US considered the Iraq-Kuwait situation to be a border dispute. Glaspie retired from the foreign service about 10 years ago, and has been very quiet on this issue: As yet, no book. I am betting that once Poppa Bush kicks off, we'll learn a lot more about the events leading up to the Gulf War and US-Bush policy.

Quite simply, Saddam did not fit in with the Bush Thousand points of light, New World Order, and A Kinder, Gentler World.More specifically, Bush wanted to shift US focus away from Iraq and move it to the more conservative Islam practiced in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States.

To say that he succeeded can be seen by the results on 9-11 when planes loaded with Saudi terrorists began their attack.

The same reason that Mubarak, Ben Ali, and Qaddafi were deposed; Assad will be next. The Middle East is being systematically destabilized so that big oil may reap huge profits and millions of Muslims will emigrate to the West.

They are causing the deaths of U.S. citizens and destroying our economy in the process.
