Depends on what you can find these days. Are you looking for a set trigger in double or single, perhaps only an adjustable?

have one 98 with double set. looking for adjustability , single trigger , able to withstand
repeated cocking , little to no drag on bolt opening, cold weather , easy safety on (military) and retain trigger deactivation with bolt in lift out of lock.

+1 on the Timney! You won't be able to get the 1 ounce let off of the double-set, but you will get a smooth, reliable and adjustable trigger that will serve you in fair weather and foul.

    "easy safety on (military)"
I take it you plan to retain the bolt shroud mounted safety?
The trigger has no impact on how easy it is to apply the safety. Likewise with opening the bolt with the safety engaged.

As to your other points, the Timney is a fine trigger. JMHO, they are The best for most uses short of match/competition rifles.

I have four different 98 Mauser actions, two with Timney triggers, and two with Mashburn Arms triggers. Both are very reliable, but I think the Mashburn triggers have finer adjustability and are smoother. You are going to pay considerably more for a Mashburn trigger.
