Is 'trapper model' a correct term to use for an '86 with a barrel less than 20 inches long?

  I think "Trapper" is slang all together. I've never seen the term in a vintage Winchester catalog.

  I believe that the slang term trapper is generally used today to refer to a factory original Winchester carbine with a shorter than standard length barrel. Such guns often bring a premium.
  
  The term is at times incorrectly used to describe any gun, rifle or carbine, with a cut down barrel. Such guns generally are shooters with little collector value.
