A real German GI P'08 should have a date on the receiver ring. If it doesn't it is something I am not familiar with.

Close clear pictures of the gun and its markings would be a big help.

After some reading, the original P08's did not have the date stamped on the receiver ring.
This may be one of the contract guns. It has the crown over the N.

I know some good clean pictures help. Haven't taken any yet.

"Crown over N". Is standard German commercial proof mark. It was in use until 1939.

ALL lugers have serial numbers most are 4 digit but many are 5 digits They started a 01 and went up to 9999 or 99999 and then started over With our pictures of all markings as well as numbers on all pieces that normally have the last 2 digits of the complete serial number it would be hopeless to be able to tell you what you have with out pictures The frame as wll as the barrel should have the complete serial number

The most common variation of the Luger is the 1920 Commercial. That is a military Luger that was reworked for sale commercially in the 1920's and 1930's. The dates were ground off the receiver ring when these were reworked. Most of the 1920 Commercial Lugers were .30 Luger cal. but some were made in 9mm. No date could mean that your pistol was made as a new item for commercial sale or it could mean it was a 1920 commercial.
