How do I move a gun safe?
Got a great deal on a Liberty. 60" tall, 30" wide, 25" deep. I am thinking about 600 pounds max from what I can find on their website. Seller had a Lock company move it with a tripod type dolly. Local rental company thinks a regular refrigerator dolly will do it. No steps involved. On my truck and off truck to my garage. What are your experiences? I am in good health and better shape than most but am 70 so I know I will need at least one strong body to help.

I bought cheap metal chain link posts from home depot, cut them in half and put them under mine and rolled it myself (900lbs) as you move along you roll past one then put it back to the front. I did use a dolly to lift the safe end up to start and to remove the pipes. 0 -
Hire some local movers. Save yourself, save your safe. 0 -
My safe weighs 1360 pounds empty
The safe dealer loaned me a set of "clamp on" movers (sit under the edges of the safe and are held in place with a ratchet strap around the base)
I used 3 6x6x16' posts to slide it from the bed of my truck through a basement window
I used a 3444 bucket loader and a long rope to control the decent.
The 6 young Amish men did all the heavy "pushing" once it was inside
Ask your dealer if he has moving equipment to loan, or simply let him do all the work.0 -
Last time I had to move one, I still had teen-age sons at home. I told them to round up a few friends, and they did. The boys latched onto the safe and carried it from the house to the shop. I never touched it or used a dolly. Each boy got $5 for his trouble. 0 -
Had a friend with a roll back wrecker that would move them. 1" PVC pipe and golf balls work well. Good luck, Ricci. 0 -
A 4 roller carpeted dolly moves mine around just fine. It's approximately 800 lbs empty.
Tip it up, roll dolly under, set it down and go.
Done it myself a few times, but I get older, it gets heavier.0 -
Years ago I/we used to move pianos........rent/borrow a damn good dolly that straps on and have some strong body help. 0 -

if you cn, take the door off. this will take a huge amount of weight off and make it a lot easier to move. 0 -
I move or have ATMs moved when they are being installed or removed.
The first thing you may want to consider is to cover the floor with panels to protect your floor and to distribute the weight.
For 600 lbs an appliance dolly should be sufficient. There are some that have another set of wheels out to form a type of tripod so you don't have to keep it balanced.0 -
I helped move (2) double wide 6 footers years ago. Using Johnson bars. Really surprised me. How easy it was, once you have the right equipment and know how. The rental places have them in stock. See below, they come in various sizes. Once you get it off the ground use pipe under it as rollers. Don't try doing it yourself. There were 4 of us moving the safes..
