Suppressor questions
Will a suppressor designed for .30 caliber rifles also effectively suppress a .22 LR or a .223?
I've been looking at the Gemtech cans with the QD mounts and it seems like if you had these mounts on a .22, a .223, and a .308 all you would have to do is move the can to whichever gun you wanted suppressed. Am I correct in my thinking or am I all wrong?

OK a bigger Bore Can will Work on a smaller bore fire-arm However it will not reduce noise at the same % as the correct size matching the can to the bore size. 0 -
Also shooting rimfire is very dirty and there is no really easy way to clean a can that cannot be disassembled. 0 -
yes, it works. In my experience, you can't tell the sound difference by ear when comparing a 22 can on a 22 barrel or a 30 cal can on a 22 barrel. When shooting supers, you're going to have the supersonic crack either way. With subs, the difference is minute enough to not matter (still hearing safe). YMMV
There is also the dirty 22lr point that's been made above. Keep that in mind.0 -

Be careful with that. I've read that SOME coatings used by SOME companies will flake and come off in ultrasonic cleaners. Wouldn't bother me, but some people would care. Again, it was not all of them. I don't know the details. I didn't care enough to look further into it0 -
The 30 cal cans have the advantage of being usable on a wider range of hosts(such as .223 to 308 Win) while providing good noise reduction on the smaller calibers. If using a QD muzzle attachment, there's no problem with different muzzle threads but the attachments add $75-100 per to the cost. A 22lr doesn't require nearly as much size so hanging a big can on a 22 is both unnecessary and unwieldy. 0 -
+1 to above.
I'd add that .22LR isn't really all that loud to begin with, so even if a .30 suppressor doesn't quite reduce the volume as much as a good .22 caliber can would, its still "good enough".
IMO, main reasons not to put a .30 suppressor on a .22LR are weight/bulk, and cost.0
