What kind of Winchester Cleaning Rod is this?
I'm told that it's for an 1873, but I have read that it might be for an 1866. Anyone know for certain?
It's 29&7/8 inches when assembled. Individually, the top section is about 8 inches long, with the other three sections being about 7&3/4 inches each.

James,
The jointed steel cleaning rods were identical for the Models 1866, 1873, and 1876. 4-piece rods were for Rifles, and 3-piece rods were for Carbines.0 -
What you have with the lengths you stated are carbine rods so it should only be a 3 rod set. The 4 rod rifle set is about 27 3/8" long. The loop end should of been flattened before the slot is made on the originals but those rods are repos. Like Bert said they are the same for either model.

Thanks guys. Much appreciated. I have the other type as well, but it's packed away somewhere. I bought it from a well respected antique dealer who frequents all of the big gun shows many years ago. I don't recall where this one came from. 0
