Unertl Scope Spring

Picked up a Unertl 3/4" 10X scope, the recoil spring is included but isn't on the tube. How do I get the spring onto the tube, between the front tower and recoil stop? The front objective is way to large to slip over. I can remove the rear tower by sliding off from the rear, but the front tower can't be slid off to the rear unless I remove the rear objective, the reticle ring and two screws on either side of the tube, just by the start of the Pope rib.

The scope is going on a 22, I know I probably don't need it. But I definitely want it on.

  that how it goes on and off, as the unertl scopes of that time(era)were not gas filled it will not hurt any thing. i have changed and taken off springs and replaced cross hair assemblies the same way. mr myopic.

  Thanks for info and photo. Tell you the truth I forgot about the 2nd retaining ring and not having to remove the front tower.

  I guess I can hijack my own thread - has anyone ever bought a scope from "Dewey Greiner - Classic Unertl Scopes"? Pretty good pricing if the conditions are accurate.

  Thanks for info and photo. Tell you the truth I forgot about the 2nd retaining ring and not having to remove the front tower.
