Questions on Colt grips & Sig Magazine
I found these at a flea market:

What type of wood are they and what is the significance of the R in a star on the underside of the left grip?

This 10 round 9MM magazine is marked PRO MAG; Made in USA; and SIG 02 9MM. I assume this is for a Sig Sauer pistol. Which model does it fit?
Any info will be appreciated!

Wood looks mahogany to me. 0 -
Pretty sure? That the grips are off a series 70 Colt. Similar grips are in this photo. Colt dropped them pretty quickly, because they were shoddy looking. Folks just didn't like them. Almost looked like Colt snitched them, from a Mettal cap gun.
Most folks got rid of them first thing. At one time they were commonly found in gunshow odds and ends boxes. I bought a pair probably 25 years ago, and still have them laying around someplace.

Gunswapper, the grips you bought are aftermarket copies of the real textured walnut grips on rufe-snow's Combat Commander. The logo stamped on one of the grips is the manufacturer's, but I have no idea who that is.

I would guess your mag is for a Sig 239. 9mm. 0 -
I think the Colt medallions should be flared on the inside of the grips, it also appears that the screws holes are countersunk on the wrong side. 0 -

They are countersunk like that, to fit over the grip bushings. That have internal threads. That the grip screws actually screw into. The grips are held very tightly in place. Because they are sandwiched between the grip screws and the bushings. Which in turn are screwed into the frame. Then there external surface is staked to the frame.0 -
The grips are walnut. The finish is either wire-wheeled or sandblasted. 0
