You could but I doubt they will provide much cushion. A good revolver doesn't need them.

For a little while until it's so dimpled it does nothing. You can pop the used primer out and replace it with silicone or a bit of plastic. Since no one's making snap caps for .458 Socom I made up some and I plan to get some delron (plastic).

Only if I can get my friend to machine the whole thing out of aluminum (like A-Zoom). I'll have to make do with the home made jobbies.

Not really. After two hits the primer will be so dimpled it won't offer any resistance any more. IE it would be the same as a dry fire.

Some people pop out the primers and put pencil erasers or some other soft material in there to act as a cushion, but I wouldn't do it. I'd be afraid the rubber would get "eaten" up, and drop shreds out.

While Smith does say its OK to dry fire their centerfire revolvers, if you're going to be sitting there dry-firing hundreds to thousands of times, I think a set of snap caps is a pretty cheap investment.

IE, a set of A-zoom .38 snap caps only costs about $20. That's less than a box of ammo, and IMO well worth it.

No, fired cartridges on't provide any cushion for the firing pin.
Neither does pencil erasers, plastic, or hot melt glue. The firing pin simply pierces them the first time it falls.
    Buy real snap caps.
