serial number xx out
Why do most sellers x-out the last two numbers of a serial number?
Thanks

Because they either have a stolen gun they're selling or they have some idiotic fear the number can be used against them. 0 -
Because they adhere to the belief that one shouldn't underestimate criminals or the government- which is actually a redundancy. 0 -
I think it's good policy. 1 of a 100 is close enough for listing purposes. 0 -

Okay, I hear you. Another question; Why do patrol pilots turn off two perfectly good engines? [8D]0 -

Haha, Same reason air conditioners have a medium setting. Without a ton and a half of bouys in the belly, two fans are as good as four.[:p]0 -
I have heard of that. Never saw it. Get caught trying it, you get charged with making a false report and go to prison.
Has anyone here actually experienced that? Anyone?0 -
When I am elected president, my first EO will be to the DOJ; I will make them put the stolen gun data base online with open access.
Then anyone obfuscating part of an SN will be assumed to be selling a stolen gun.
Some folks fear that the federal government is compiling a data base of guns & their owners. Trust me, there is no one who works for the federal government with the competence to do that.

Maybe you can get them to list all the "gun walking firearms" and all the stuff supplied to alkida. 0 -
I collect 1922 Series Springfield Rifles and 1903 NRA Sporters. It is important to have the complete serial number to see if either of them is listed in Springfield Research Service records. 0 -
No one has had any problem posting sernos. It's always a friend of a friend horror stories that are branded about. People are just goofy and unthinking about things. 0 -

I think I will post serial numbers with guns I have for sale. I do wish there was a lost and stolen list available as we buy a lot of guns. I can't even get information from our state databases but they require us to complete a state form for every transaction. Maybe some day.
