Ruger did indeed make a lever action, the Model 96.
    But not in .357 Magnum.

It was made in .22 LR, .22 WMR, and a few in .17 HMR.
The only centerfire was a .44 Magnum.

Yes, Ruger did in fact produce the lever gun, Model 96. As has been stated it was never in 357 magnum for the center fire, just 44 magnum. It was a shame. The 44 took the same rotary magazines that the 77/44 took, and also the semi auto Deerfield. They did for a while, and still might be, make that little 77 bolt gun in 357 magnum. I would really love to see Winchester, or Marlin offer another lever gun in 41 magnum.

They now call it the "77/357" and its listed in their current catalog, so they still make it.

To repeat the answer to above, no, its not "true".

Right now Ruger isn't making ANY leverguns. As already mentioned, Ruger never made leverguns in 357 either, just rimfire and .44 magnum. So there is no way this "someone" could have bought a new Ruger .357 levergun, or even an old one.

Current manufacturers of lever action .357s include: Marli, Henry, Winchester, Rossi, Uberti (which is also sold by Cimarron and under other names) and Chiappa (sold as "Puma" now). Maybe there are one or two other small "boutique" makers, but that's about it.

So if this someone has bought anything at all, he had to have bought one of the above.

The only "levergun" Ruger ever made in .357 Mag was the single shot #1. Neighbor had one..commemorating the California Highway patrol. The Model 96 was only in .44 Mag and in rimfires in the USA. It's possible some .357 mags were produced for the foreign market and ended up here...that does happen but not often.

Ruger 41 beat me to it, the #1 was a rare CHP commemorative issue in .357 Mag.

Sure it is. It is just not a lever action REPEATER.

I was conspiracy minded enough to think that Ruger designed the Model 96 lever action to have a product ready if the "Assault Weapon" Antis got all automatics banned, including the 10/22.

Jim, you're right, it's a single-shot lever-actuated falling block styled after the Farquharson falling blocks patented by John Farquharson in England in the 1870's.

To the uninitiated, the Ruger #1 may look like a lever action like the 1892, 1894 (3 of those) Winchesters, 1895 and 39A Marlins, or Henry sitting in my safes. Ruger did make the .357 #1 model several years ago as a CHP commemorative.
