Enfield No 4 MK 2 (F) Uganda Contract, Matching Nu
Found this rifle at a local Cabela's store I know there pricing is usally a little high they are asking $1699.99 for the rifle. looked down the bore it is very shiny.Marking on rifle PF370063 and proof marks 79P/D F/53. My main question is there any way to know if this rifle really went to Uganda or if it just stayed in a British Arsenal? Also is this price way off.

I think the price is off by a decimal point myself. I never really liked any of the SMLE I shot. Most shot well enough to catch dinner but they were all rough machined.
To a collector of SMLE's it might be worth the asking.0 -
I have no idea of whether or not it went to Uganda. There is a similar rifle currently for sale (elsewhere) for $649.

The No 4 Mk 2s have the best trigger found on an Enfield. These are sought after by shooters wanting to make a match rifle.
Don't know about Uganda.
The price seems a wee bit high IMO.0 -
This is a very interesting topic. As the use and transfer, of post war production Enfields. Is little known. I thought this Uganda Contract was so much BS, from Cabela's when I read the OP's post. Nothing in my books or references. Than I went on-line to do research. There appears their might be some truth in this Uganda stuff" Quote below in red is from a military forum. Very interesting information. For military rifle collectors.
Even though the rifle might indeed have been transferred to Uganda by the Brits? I believe the price is out of wack. Value is based on demand, in my experience. I don't see any level of demand, to reflect Cabela's asking price of $1699.99. IMHO, even to a very hard core military rifle collector. Probably double it's realistic fair market value.
"Because the British Army had millions of Mk1s in store they didn't need Mk2s, so most of the Mk2 production was done in batches for export to Commonwealth countries, or for commercial sale, or for RAF service.
