CA 22LR AR Question
I have an AR receiver I was going to use for a build. I think I am going to get a dedicated 22LR upper for it.
Can I ditch the bullet button or do I have to get a receiver and have it registered as a 22LR.
Thanks.

With the dedicated upper you just put on on your lower.
Only lowers are registered, they have the serial number.
In kommiefornia you have watch how many the mags hold [xx(]0 -
In CA, when we get a lower, it's almost automatic where you put the bullet button on. On the Colt and S&W AR22's, no bullet button is required.
If I only use this lower on the 22LR upper, can I leave it with a standard mag release and get rid of the bullet button.0 -

You should visit "Calguns" - everything you want to know (unfortunately) about CA gun laws. To answer your question, yes you can remove the "Bullet Button" as CA AW laws regarding semi auto rifles apply to center fire only, not rimfire. I have a few ARs to include a rimfire, the lower and the upper are stashed in the same bag. They need not be, constructive possession doesn't apply in CA AW laws. One thing to be careful of, some folks use those "rimfire conversion kits" in a centerfire upper instead of getting a dedicated rimfire upper. If you're switching back & forth be sure to remove the upper from the lower first, then yank out the conversion unit.
One other thing you may want to do, although it's not necessary - remove the buffer, buffer spring & retaining pin/spring from the lower. It's true that a broken or improperly functioning AW is still an AW, but a lower with no buffer/buffer spring lends credulity to "it's rimfire only". CA law is sufficiently complicated that some, including LE, can make mistakes. If you're using it as rimfire only might as well leave it out.
BTW, if you want something with a little more "oomph" the 17 WSM is rimfire and doesn't need a BB either.0
