buyer's fee or hammer fee
I had a seller ask me to pay a buyer's fee or hammer fee. I have never encounter that on Gun Broker before. I can't figure out any justification for this on Gun Broker.

I've been here selling and buying for almost 9 years, I've never heard of that before.

If you have won a auction with a specific bid? Thats what it is. Buyers fee is bunk!
Unfortunately there are a lot of scammers and crooks on the auctions. It's not unknown for sellers, to back out of deals. Or to play games if they sold it locally, or on another auction. Or in a under the table deal, to another buyer.
You have little recourse, other than leaving negative feedback.
EDIT #1,
You could as the other members suggested, contact the auction support folks. Personally I don't believe it will do any good.
I had a similar thing happen to me, awhile back. Selling a GI bring back souvenir, from W W II. The winner after she won the auction, got buyers remorse. And gave me a real hard time. Turned really nasty quick.
Same, same with your guy. He IMHO, just looking for excuse to back out of deal. If you threaten to go to auction support, and leave bad feedback. He will respond, that he will do the same.0 -

Because there is no justification for such a thing.
The auction terms are a legally binding contract, and its up to the seller to honor them.
If the auction doesn't specify a buyers fee then you are under no obligation to pay one. I've also never heard of such a thing before, and I've also had multiple transactions on this board for at least 8 years too.
I'd tell the seller exactly that. . .that you are prepared to honor your side of the auction agreement, and you expect him to do the same. You'll pay the final winning bid amount, plus whatever the specified shipping costs are.
If that's not good enough for him, then s Rufe says, you've got little recourse other than to let the deal fall through and leave him negative feedback afterwards.
If that happens, don't feel bad. You're may be better off that way anyway, since someone shady enough to ask for extra fees can't be trusted with their auction terms either. Maybe the gun isn't exactly as described. . .or as Rufe says, this may be his way of trying to back out of the deal, or "sweeten" a deal he isn't happy with.
Make sure you keep copies of all communications between yourself and the seller, that way should the seller decide to reciprocate by leaving you negative feedback (and/or lying) you'll be able to shows GB.com administrators to back up your side of the story and get this removed.
Edit: In GENERAL, a "buyer's fee" isn't unheard of. Plenty of auction houses make their money tacking on this fee on as a percentage of the winning bid on items they auction, then the buyers has to pay it. But GunBroker isn't one of them, and never has been.
GB.com makes its money the same way most online auctions do, and that's by charging a SELLER's fee, based on a percentage of value of the item sold. Advantage here is that it means the final cost to the buyer is the same as the winning bid (plus shipping/transfer costs, if applicable).
I'd like to see this seller explain why he thinks this fee is due, and point out explicitly where you (the buyer) agreed to pay it.
Here is the formal list of GB.com fees, for future/current reference:

Usually sellers hide the buyers's fee in the shipping costs if they are trying to charge one.
If it was not listed in the auction, you are under no obligation to pay it. You are not contractually bound to pay it, and therefore your refusal to complete the auction is completely justified.
Conversely, it would be unwise to pay for the item without including it, as the seller may not ship. You can then file a support issue and leave bad feedback, but at the risk of being out your money either permanently or at least for a period of time.0 -
Seller is not entitled to any "Buyer's Fee" unless specifically stated in his auction.
