What the H$(( is that supposed to mean? I just wanted to look for Thompson Contender barrels.
Also what is a G2?
Also I have a 14" .223 barrel, can I use 5.56 ammo?

I think the G2 is a second generation contender. https://www.tcarms.com/firearms/interchangeable-platforms/g2-contender
Yes It will shoot 5.56. How well is subject to the ammo, big bullets for a rifle might shoot poorly in the twist rate for varmint lighter bullets.0 -
That wildcard message comes up frequently for me. I just re enter the same search and generally it works. 0 -
Many search engines use a "wildcard" symbol to make searching easier and often it is an asterisk--> *
GunBroker advanced search does also. If I search Winchester 18* the results include Winchester 1873s, 1890s, 1892, 1894s, 1895s, etc.
When I open the GunBroker advanced search feature, there is already an * in the search field. If I delete that * or if I select specific categories to search, then I do not get that error message.
If that * were not there, then a search for a particular seller would not produce any results, because the search field would be blank.0 -
G2 is, in fact the Generation 2 Thompson Center Contender style gun. It is more like a scaled down Encore, actually. Most of the time, the newer barrels will need to be dressed up, to fit and function well, on the older Contender frames.
As to your question about 5.56mmx45 NATO ammunition...Yes, it will with most, but it will only stabilize up to 60 grain bullets, with some 62's being questionable. Using anything over 62 grains, you will be testing the upper limits of the shorter throated 223 Remington chamber, and risking high pressure spikes.

EDIT 1
quote:I was concerned about the safety of using 5.56. So 55 grain bullets should be safe?
I should avoid the G2 barrels for my older Contender since they may not fit?
Actually with the prices I have seen it may not matter anyway. I might as well buy whole guns with the prices I have seen now.
I guess I will just stick with my .22 LR, .223, .357 Maximum, 30/30 & 45/70 barrels. I never paid as much as $200 for any of them & some were under $100. You used to see used barrels for sale almost everywhere.
Yes, the 55 grainers, should be safe to shoot. The G2 barrels will fit, but it might take a little TLC in the right area's to get them to function the way they need to.
Yes, I do remember those days, when barrels were not as expensive. It is, like as you say, Tempting to go for the whole new platform.
