Arisaka sporter
Hi all. I have a sporterized arisaka (cut stock, bent bolt handle, scope mounted on top). It was also rebarrel or perhaps rechambered in 6mm rem. The stock is definitely just a shaped military stock. I imagine it is a 38 due to the caliber choice. My question is..in looking for a stock I have decided to search for another, more craftfully done sporter and use the stock and trigger if I can find one with a thumb safety. If I find a type 99, will the stock bolt onto 38 action with little or no major work? Will the trigger also be interchangeable without modification? Or if I have a 38, should I only look for 38 parts?
Thanks

Just look for 38 parts. A few parts might interchange, but while the action style is almost identical, everything is just enough off. 0 -
So if I were to cannibalize another sporter of a different caliber, would I be safe to assume that if the caliber of a sporterized arisaka is a short action such as 308,243,6.5x55, 7x57, then its most likely a type 38 too? 0 -
Original Japanese Arisaka parts have pretty much dried up, if they are original and in V.G. condition.
I had one that was all original, ( Mum and all ), that had the stock cut down. Just needed the stock, front band, bayonet lug and associated hardware. Couldn't find anything original, that was reasonably priced.
Unless you can get into what you're looking for, dirt cheap. And you're sure it will fit your particular rifle. I would leave your rifle, as it is.0 -
I am not looking for original parts, I am looking for either a sporter stock such as a bishop, fajen, etc or something that was made to transform the old war rifle into a modern sporting rifle.
So if I found an arisaka in 3006 with a nice Monte Carlo stock I wanted to see if it would fit mine. Assuming I have a 38 and an 06 might be a 99.0 -
Regardless of what caliber another sporter might be in, look for two gas holes on the receiver ring (38) vs. 1 (99). That being done you know you have a 38 in front of you.
Boyds DOES offer a variety of 38 stocks.0 -
I didn't even think about Boyds! Thank you. I can't wait to check on the holes too. There might be a possibility I have a 99 after all. I just wouldn't imagine someone making a 6mm out of a 7.7 and doing all the extra work. 0
