Late 1940s or so, for Winchester.

In the beginning there was the:
30-30 Wesson (a straight walled black powder round)
Than came the 30 WCF (rimmed).
Later came the 30-30 REMINGTON (rimless)
At a still later date the last 2 decided to swap names, becoming the 30 REM and 30-30 WIN that we know today.

The above is to point out that there have been 3 distinct cartridges that carried the 30-30 name tag (and you thought things were confusing today [:D] )

I think Burt's book states that 1951 was the year Winchester changed from 30WCF to 30-30 Winchester.

Later came the 30-30 REMINGTON (rimless)

Are you sure the 30 Remington was called a "30-30"?

Winchester made the change from "30 W.C.F." to "30-30 WIN." in early 1950 (circa serial number 1674500).
