Winchester 94 carbine
I am a little confused on the butt stock of the 94 Carbine. I see adds saying the gun has a shotgun butt stock and when I look It will find a curved metal, a flat metal or a flat plastic. It seems that the deluxe models have the plastic. Is there a year they stopped putting the curved steel butt plate on the standard Carbine?
Was the crescent butt stock like on the rifle ever offered on the Carbine?

The Model 1894/94 Carbines were equipped with the traditional curved butt plate from 1894 - 1936. In 1936, the shotgun style steel butt plate with horizontal serrated grooves was used (formerly used on the Models 53, 54, and 55). In late 1945 into early 1946, the serrated steel butt plate was replaced by the flat checkered steel butt plate.
Now, as early as 1894, a black hard rubber shotgun style butt plate was offered as a special order item. Additionally, a smooth steel shotgun style butt plate could be special ordered. Both of the special order butt plates had a "widows" peak at the top that was inletted into the butt stock. The widows peak was eliminated approximately 1915.
The fancy variations were quite often ordered with the black hard rubber butt plate.
Starting in the year 1933, a shotgun style checkered steel butt plate could also be special ordered. This style was identical to the butt plate Winchester used on the Model 1887 & Model 1897 shotguns, and on the Model 1885, late production Model 54, Model 64, Model 65, Model 70, and Model 71 rifles.
Yes, a Carbine could have been special ordered with a crescent (rifle) butt plate. I have seen a few dozen of them in the past 35+ years.0
