colt 38d.a.
I have a Colt DA38 Navy. Will it shoot a S&W 38?

Probably not.
Flayderman says they made a few .38 S&W in the New Army and Navy but the standard caliber was .38 Government = .38 Long Colt.0 -
Two factors will affect this. # 1, I.D. dimensions of the charge holes in the cylinder. & # 2, Who made the ammo, and what manufacturing tolerance did they hold the O.D. to.
I know this for a fact, because I lost money in a bet to a guy. I told him flat out, the .38 S & W wouldn't fit in a .38 Special cylinder. He proved me wrong. By loading original British made .38/200 ammo, in a Hammerli Dakota .357 cylinder.
Colts likely will have their cylinder I.D. dimensions, held to a much tighter tolerance than a Hammerli Dakota.0 -
The 38 Long Colt's dia is.381 and uses a .361 bullet
The 38 S&W,s is 38650 -
Subject is a hundred year old gun, it should be treated right. 0
