Winchester Pre 64 Model 70?
Would a 1958 made 300 H&H have the standard Winchester steel butt plate with the tear drop inletted at the heel and would both the front and rear receiver bridge have been factory drilled and tapped.

1. No; would have red factory solid recoil pad.
2.Yes.0 -
Well, this is my take on it, after a review of the Rule book:
Change form metal buttplate to composite buttplate in 1959.
300 Win Mag, 375 H&H Mag, 264 Win Mag, 338 Win Mag and 458 Win Mags have rubber recoil pads, either vented or solid, depending. 300 H&H never has a recoil pad as standard.
So, 1958 should be a steel buttplate on a 300 H&H.0 -
I haven't found anything, either, in the Rule book that indicates a recoil pad "as issue" on a .300 H&H. Both of mine have after-market recoil pads so they are no help.
As an aside re MG1890's post: Per the Rule book, the .264 "Westerner" did not have a pad while the .264 featherweight did. And my 1960 .264 Westerner has the composite plate.0 -
To chime in:
- A steel butt plate would be appropriate for a 1958 rifle.
- Unless a Standard Grade 300 H&H rifle were special ordered, a rubber recoil pad would NOT be appropriate.
- A 1958 rifle would have the action factory-tapped for scope mounts, both fore and aft.0 -
Thanks all, that's what I thought but wasn't positive. 0
