    The English proof marks, and "England" country of origin marking. Were put on after the S & W were sold as surplus. The commercial proof marks were required by British law. Probably done sometime in the 50's.

    The cylinder was reamed out for the .38 Special cartridge, at the same time. As the .38 Special cartridge, was much more common and saleable in the U.S.
