Remington Cartridge Headstamp
Anyone know when Remington switched from REM-UMC to R-P? I'm guessing it was after 1950 since I have some .222 cases with the REM-UMC stamp.

REM=UMC was used from 1911 to 1960, then RP

1911 to 1960 are somewhat arbitrary dates.
The R-P headstamp was introduced in 1960 but there are known cartridges that continued to have the REM-UMC headstamp as late as 1964. Also, some of the low volume calibers continued using the old headstamp until the old bunters wore out. Some inexpensive ammunition imported in the 1980s also used the REM-UMC headstamp.
And, most cartridges did not use the REM-UMC headstamp until 1912 even though some of the boxes were labeled as The Remington Arms-Union Metallic Cartridge Company as early as 1911.
Many shooters do not know that there were 3 different versions of the REM-UMC headstamp.0 -
Remington used a "U" on their rimfire cases until the 1980's. 0
